Good video tutorial excellent craftsmanship but you get what you pay for $60 a gallon it will not last... Out in the elements especially when you're talking about candy candy fades really quickly under UV rays you need a high quality inter coat And a hi solid clear coat for candy... Me and my family owns Sagals paints out of Columbus Ohio we've been in business since 1939... The cheapest PPG shopline clear is more than $87 a gallon if the painter and the body man know what they're doing and you do a really good prep job before you paint that clear might hold up for two or three years

Big ups for taking on this project. Definitely understand the weight of doing something in remembrance or in honor of a loved one. It's in good hands.

While considering buying a 914 in the mid 80s the driving salesman took us around the fastest corner I think I have ever taken. It felt like the tires were going to rip right off the car. Low, wide, short and light makes for fast cornering. I had bought a new Firebird with a/c instead though. I had since bought a Fiero (not the fastback every Japanese sportscar looking GT version, the unique 914 looking version) and had it lowered to the extreme with the best available suspension (similar layout to the 914)(it also had a/c). With more money than brains in my younger days I have had some pretty nice cars and got lots a various traffic tickets, but easily had more fun in that Fiero under the speed limit than any other car at any speed. EVERY corner was just fun. City driving was fun.

You almost got it right in the intro. My buddy painted for me and I have already taken the orange peel out. Really struggling with swirls now. But you were close enough for me to agree with the other comment, “I’ve never felt so attacked by a RUclips intro!” lol😂

You are 100% correct. I don't want to pay someone. It's my motorcycle and if I screw it up, I'll just do it again. This sounds like fun that will cause the right amount of jealousy.

What year 2.5 engine did you use?

It hurts my eyes.... Using impact gun for tightening crank pulley that is hold in place only by positioning bolt .... best way how to destroy your timing cover. That M6 bolt screwd into aluminium cover is not suposed to hold that in place but only set position. You have to hold it against tightening force by tool. Also use new crank bolt everytime its TTY bolt non reusable.

While I appreciate the shout out in the video description I must criticize your technique for assembling the motor. People have had motors fail for being assembled more meticulously than you have here. Both crank diamond washers should be replaced, the crank pulley should always be countered when torqueing, and you never touch the diamond washers on the faces! Please go review my instructions and videos more in depth to help improve your future methodology.

Rather than playing with the spacing of the paddles, you could space the whole wheel forward, and you may even regain horn button fixture.

Look, you can do constant full repairs on ancient vehicles OR try a short term solution to give you some room to save and shop for a new vehicle. Constant expenses that may not be worth it or a cheap fix-for-now, your choice.

You nailed it in your introduction, I had just sprayed my Z28 in my garage, and I had the problems you were about to help me correct 😢, but then you start bringing introducing all kinds of high tech chemicals and power tools, DUDE !! I’m in my garage not able to afford all that I’m going to have to purchase to get the results u got, that’s why I painted the car myself to save SOME MONEY!!!!

That’s not service position. Service position slides the front end forward close to 6 inches so you don’t have to drain a/c or coolant. Also this is the prince engine series, co developed with Renault, the early engines were trash in the R56 chassis

It’s why I’m scared to death to paint the 1968 Galaxie fastback survivor I found recently. I don’t want to spend 5k on a paint job because the car will be worth 20-25k when I’m done with it. 10500 for the car, another 2-4K in parts, plus repairing a few small dents and a paint job. I’m thinking of trying acrylic enamel garage paint job, and then wet sanding and polishing it instead of going with urethane where there’s not as much room for fixing my screwups
